The Raspberry Pi AI Camera is a high-resolution camera module with an integrated neural processing unit (NPU) for on-device AI vision tasks, compatible with all Raspberry Pi models. The Raspberry Pi AI Camera uses the Sony IMX500 Intelligent Vision Sensor, a 12-megapixel CMOS sensor with an on-board neural network accelerator, enabling real-time AI processing directly on the camera module. This allows the Raspberry Pi’s CPU and GPU to remain free for other tasks while the camera handles AI inference, such as object detection, pose estimation, and semantic segmentation. Unlike the Raspberry Pi AI Kit, which requires a separate AI HAT, the AI Camera is a standalone module that includes both the camera and AI processing capabilities.
