My design utilizes version 1 & 2 of the RASSOR drum design and combines the 2 version. When the drum is rotating, the scoops contact and dig up the soil/regolith. The regolith passes through the opening of the drum and goes into an empty container. The regolith will be contained until the drum rotates in reverse and dumps it out. My idea is utilizing the most space out of the drum, it has a self-contained area connected to a pathway to the oopening. The construction material is sheet metal aluminum and the construction method is TIG welding. The fill ratio and fill volume is approximated with the help of a measurement tool in a CAD software and my manual calculations. Here are some overall dimensions and properties. Total length: 347mm Total diameter: 400mm Total mass: 4.55kg Total volume: 34 litre Fill ratio: 60% approximately Fill volume: 20.4 litre approximately Maximum engaged width at any given time: 170mm The pathway can be widen or narrow to adjust for the containing area or the rock size. The drum can also be made out of plastics or composite materials to reduce weight, but I prefer aluminum because of its strength and weldability.
