RASSOR Bucket Drum Design - 2: Improvement of the internal deflector This system has two separate bucket drums to ensure that the excavation work continues even if one of them is damaged; all damaged parts can be replaced quickly and easily because all parts of the bucket drum are fixed with MS screws (alternatively they can also be welded together without using the screws). The scoop of each bucket drum is 90mm wide and inside it a baffle, according to the direction of its rotation, stores or pushes out the regolith; the bucket drums do not need to continue rotating to retain the regolith inside during the entire transport operation to the base storage point. This results in lower battery consumption. I replaced the transmission shaft with one a decagonal section (inscribed in a diameter of 30mm) to transmit the rotation to the bucket drums without using adapters, to save weight of the system, and I also have the possibility to orient the bucket drums with 30° steps among them (could serve in some missions); moreover, they can assist the traction of the robot. The material chosen is TITANIUM Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 and all the components are designed for 3D printing, the technical data of the project are listed below. Technical features: Maximum total width of scoops engaged at any given time: 90mm Weight for single bucket drum: 2,5kg (x2= 5kg tot.) Maximum bucket drum diameter: 450mm Maximum length for single bucket drum: 180mm (x2= 360mm tot.) Maximum volume for single bucket drum: 13Lt. (x2= 26Lt. tot.) Minimum stowage volume for single bucket drum: 9.5Lt. (x2= 19Lt. tot.) Fill ratio: Estimated 73% The kinematic motion was performed with Rocky DEM by setting the simulation with gravity attraction 1,625 m / s² and with bucket drum rotation of 20 rpm. The process of filling takes about 42 s (13 rounds). Attention please: Even if you see a correct unloading phase of the system, the regolith stops on a fantom structure that I didn't notice before. I'm sorry but I'm doing the simulation again but it will be ready in 20 hours. I'm sorry but it's the first time I've used the Rocky DEM program. Thank you.
