The rationale behind the SPEED Ejection Mechanism 3D design you see above is based on simplicity, manufacturability, and reliability while meeting NASA’s SPEED challenge requirements. The avionics is loaded with a test model and ascends with the aid of a balloon at supersonic speed. Upon reaching 40km or the required height after descent, the avionics sends a 5V signal to the solenoid and retracts the latch there releasing the compression spring. The compression springs behind the Test Model push it with the energy required to force the test model into the stratosphere at supersonic speed. The Haack cone continues along its trajectory
