Telescopic NS2 · 模型 236229
Below, I attach a conceptual proposal for the challenge: https://grabcad.com/tutorials/conceptual-design-challenge-artificial-gravity-for-human-colonies-on-the-moon-and-mars NS2 Telesopic is based on a device that holds the habitats both circumferentially and at their ends. This device has the ability to change its inertia by extending or contracting those telescopic arms. When the arms are extended, the masses move away from the axis of rotation, increasing the moment of inertia. Therefore, by increasing the moment of inertia, more torque would be needed to change the angular velocity of the system, meaning that it is harder to accelerate or decelerate. This is reflected in a greater need for power to meet the required angular acceleration. By contracting the arms, the masses move closer to the axis of rotation, decreasing the moment of inertia. This is an advantage when having to accelerate the habitat since to change its angular speed less torque will be required and therefore, less power to be consumed than in the case of extended telescopic. To generate the rotation forces to the device, different possible solutions detailed in the sketch have been proposed.
