Complete assembly of a Tusi couple mechanism: an input shaft, a fixed internal ring gear, a pinion carried by an arm that rolls inside the ring, and a piston/cylinder driven by a rod pinned to the pinion's pitch circle. The ring gear's pitch diameter is exactly twice the pinion's, which forces the pinion-mounted pin to trace a perfectly straight line as it orbits — producing pure sinusoidal (simple harmonic) reciprocating motion at the piston with no cam and no slider-crank offset error.
