Hello I am Rachael Swartz and I am a B.F.A Art and Design major at East Stroudsburg University. My instructors are Darlene Farris-LaBar, and Jocelyn Kolb-DeWitt. My dream goal is to go for my masters to be an Industrial Designer and to create 3D printed prosthetics for animals and humans. I love art and design and I would really like to be able to incorporate what I create to help people who are in need. I created a new glucose monitor design for people that have diabetes because I wanted it to be more appealing than older devices. Not all medical devices look appealing and that is why I decided to recreate the Bayer’s Contour USB Blood glucose monitoring system. The glucose monitor was created in Rhino where Jocelyn Kolb-DeWitt assisted me in the process of making the monitor. Then Darleen Farris-LaBar helped me put the monitor into Photoshop 3D where I was able to add color on the glucose monitor. From there I was able to print the glucose monitor in the East Stroudsburg University’s G3D lab on the Stratasys J750 3D printer. The Stratasys J750 uses photo resin in full color and high-resolution to print objects. After it is finished printing, I used the water jet to take the support material off. I am thrilled to see that the 3D printed prototype looks like what I would imagine it to be in the actual functioning product.
