VA Index Finger Control Attachment · 模型 157099
The concept depicted was developed to help disabled veterans gain the use of machines or contraptions that require the use of one's index finger. The idea was specifically targeted for the use of lawn equipment like hedge trimmers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, etc. They all require the operator to grip some sort of shaft and squeeze the throttle trigger to operate the machine. The idea is to use some sort of strap or belt so that the flexible and free thumb and middle/ring/pinky assemblies can be strap together to form a loop or gripping mechanism on the shaft. Once the operator is attached to the equipment the index finger can be operated to squeeze the trigger using the available cable. The model is a rough concept. The size of the cable was not denoted and the strapping material was not modeled. The cable would use the recess in the palm member to attach to the index finger which is limited to vertical motion by the grooves in the palm member. The middle/ring/pinky assembly rotates about a pin or fastener and the thumb currently uses a universal joint. However, during the course of the concept the thumb can be simplified to a device that simply receives and holds the strap to lock the user into the device they are using by holding the three finger assembly in place. This device would allow disabled veterans to gain access to the great outdoors once again, and smell the fresh cut grass.
