The compressor is a part of the engine which does just that - compresses. Its usually a series of blades which run from the intake to just before the combustion chamber.A jet engine works by ingesting air from the intake and sucking it back with the compressor blades. As the air travels further back, it gets compressed to a much higher pressure as it goes through each compressor stage. The high pressure air then enters the combustion chamber where it is mixed with fuel and ignited. The hot expanding mixture flows out of the combustion chamber and over a tubine which turns to run the compressor and other accessories. Finally the high temperature, high velocity air exits the exhaust as thrust.
