This was designed to be the next gen of mobile testing enclosures. With an all aluminum frame, a piano hinged cover plate to isolate the DUTs (device under test) from the test infrastructure, brackets to secure a cisco 48 port router, and a modular tray area to allow for testing of larger devices. This would be a self contained test enclosure for 36 DUTs with direct connection to individual test units, a POE 12-layer board, and a 5VDC 180Amp power supply. DUT isolation allowed for easy exchange/replacement of devices where devices became unstable, unresponsive, or otherwise unusable. The base design consumed 4U of rack space. The tray module could be swapped out for taller devices that could potentially allow for up to 8U of stacking space. The first article was fabricated with steel to decrease the initial cost for a single unit for validation. It weighed a ton! Four additional units were eventually ordered in aluminum with additional detailing. Despite the project not rolling forward to full production, this is one of my proudest creations, and I wish I could have kept at least the first article for myself. Perhaps it's still stored somewhere in one of the back rooms of Microsoft. (fyi, nothing here is proprietary or exposes any IP)
