Challenges with current VTOL drones: 1. Multi-copters are inefficient in cruise 2. Fixed wing designs have additional propellers just for VTOL 3. Tilt rotor mechanism is more complex and heavier. This concept tries to be more efficient in cruise without additional motors/tilt mechanism. The upside down approach also allows for ease of loading and unloading. Large elevators and a long moment arm for the tail is given to help the UAV reorient between vertical (hover) and horizontal (cruise) positions easily.
