Wankel rotary engine · 模型 233362
The rotary engine was first invented by the German Engineer Felix Wankel in 1889. Unlike typical reciprocating piston engines, the rotary engine uses rotors that are shaped like a rounded edge triangle. This also follows the 4 stroke combustion cycle, where each stage is separated by the contact of the tip of the rotors with the combustion chamber walls. the rotary uses an eccentric shaft which is similar to a crankshaft in a piston engine. The rotary engine is much more compact than a piston cylinder engine while also producing similar horsepower. It takes up less space and can be made to fit into smaller engine bays. one of the biggest drawbacks of a rotary is its gas mileage. these are notorious for consuming tons of fuel for producing the same power as a piston engine, thus inefficient. Friction is a huge problem for rotaries as there is a lot of contact with the rotor and the combustion chamber..
