As part of the International SOLIDWORKS Bootcamp 2025, I’ve successfully completed the hands-on challenge of designing a flange part with both 3D modeling and 2D technical drawing based on given industrial standards. 📐 The task involved: - Creating the 3D model using dimensional constraints - Generating a fully annotated 2D drawing with GD&T - Understanding different types of flanges and their practical applications - Researching common materials used in flange manufacturing like carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, and aluminum 📝 Flange Types This component appears to be a Welding Neck Flange or Custom Hub Flange with bolt holes. 🔸 Common Flange Types: Welding Neck Flange – long tapered hub, good for high pressure. Slip-on Flange – slides over the pipe, easier alignment. Blind Flange – used to block pipelines. Threaded Flange – screwed to the pipe, no welding. Socket Weld Flange – pipe is inserted then welded. Lap Joint Flange – used with stub ends. 🔧 Applications of Flanges Flanges are used to: - Connect pipes, valves, pumps, and equipment. - Allow easy maintenance and disassembly. - Seal pressure vessels or pipelines. Common Industries: Oil & Gas, Chemical Plants, Water Treatment, Power Generation, HVAC Systems 🧱 Materials Used for Manufacturing Flanges Flanges are typically made from Carbon Steel (for Cost-effective, high-strength, used in general industry), Stainless Steel (for Corrosion resistance, used in chemical & food industry), Alloy Steel (for High temperature and pressure applications), Aluminum (for Lightweight, corrosion-resistant), Brass/Bronze (for Marine environments, decorative), Plastic - PVC, CPVC (for Low-pressure, non-corrosive systems) Selection depends on pressure rating, temperature, fluid type, and environment. For this task, Carbon Steel has been selected.
