Wooden Reciprocating Air Engine · 模型 15275
This build is not claimed as an original invention. The design evolved through hands-on iteration and was influenced by existing air engine concepts, with guidance and inspiration from Steve at work, Professor Bruce Yeany, and Mattias Wandel. This wooden air engine was built as an experimental, hands-on project to explore mechanical principles using non-traditional materials. The design intentionally prioritizes learning, iteration, and practicality over optimization or industrial precision. Design Considerations: • Flywheel mass is heavy! Also inertia and balance constraints due to wooden construction, Thus, symmetry is strict here! Sand it properly. • Sealing challenges caused by wood porosity. Also put a gear oil on each moving joints • Limited Blower performance, it is better to use Vacuum • Dependence on locally available wood - in our case, we used mahogany as our only material (better to have different wood) • Precision limited by woodworking tools and skill level (tolerance handled via design trade-offs rather than strict GD&T) • Enlarged scale (approximately 2× from the "original's") to compensate for better performance of "Pushing and Pulling" and more air is being forced out! • Single inlet design only Acknowledgments / Design Influences: This design evolved through hands-on iteration and practical experience. Conceptual inspiration and guidance were drawn from Steve at Work (you can find him here in grabcad), Professor Bruce Yeany (Yt channel), and Mattias Wandel (he has a website for his build).
