In the early 2000's ....there was a popular dry ink pen called "Zai 1000'' also known as "THE TOP'' or "EL-TOP" in the local Egyptian market....I think no one here in Egypt calls it "Zai" and only a few knows this name. Back then, I was in the 3rd,4th grade when i first tried it as it was forbidden for us as kids to write with dry ink pens and the only allowed writing instrument was the sharpened wooden pencil. Although there was a lot of other types of pens available in the market , this particular pen had a slightly higher price than most of it's counterparts (0.75 L.E as the avarage pen price was 0.5 L.E back then). It has been my favorite dry ink pen until this moment due to its high quality, simplicity and unique (crisp) writing experience. No doubt these characteristics were the reason for it's widely known name "The Top". sadly, it's now discontinued. and for those who miss this pen there is a Japanese equivalent called "Uni-SAS- MEDIUM" in a much.......MUCH higher price. Some people think that the "Zai 1000" is an Indonesian replica of the Japanese "Uni-SAS" pen. this can be true since they are almost identical in the outer appearance. You can tell the difference between them only when you look closely to the writing engraved on the body of the pen and the sticker sticked on the cap which the "Uni-SAS" had it's name on and a notation that it uses a stainless steel tip. on the other hand, the Indonesian "Top" had the same sticker in the same place but labeled in Arabic (صنع بأندوجيا) in a very strange font. And a notation (in the same place also) that it uses Tungsten Carbide tip written in English.....
