The Compound Angular Spring-Tensioned (CAST) Mechanism stores energy through angular deformation of spiral torsion springs, similar to those used in tape measures, and releases it through a pulley–cam system analogous in principle to compound bows but mechanically simpler. This configuration enables controlled force delivery with precise fine-tuning of the acceleration curve and ejection velocity of the test model, ensuring uniform release while minimizing tip-off and jerk during 'CAST-ing' (a deliberate play on “casting,” as in throwing).
