- Hybrid setup can be used with handwheels or as CNC. - A compact, rigid, precise machine that is easy to made. - A reasonably sized working surface. - Fast enough for all uses (4000mm/s). - Cute Suitable for: - precision work - watchmaking, PCB manufacturing, etc. Strong enough for soft metals (Aluminum, Brass, etc.) on large pieces up to 6mm (spindle limit) with a cutting depth of 1mm (tested). Dimensional Accuracy: - The machine does not adopt a router structure (Y+XZ) but instead uses a classic milling machine structure with an XY table. - This structure is more rigid, has fewer degrees of freedom, and can be easily adjusted. Manufacturing tolerances (cutting, drilling, etc.) do not affect the machine's kinematics. Functional dimensions rely on known dimensions with low tolerances, such as the thickness of a profile or a linear guide. Ease of Adjustment: - The machine is easy to adjust. Even when made by hand, you can achieve an error of less than 0.03mm over 50mm across all axes. - All adjustments are rotational (no need for shim spacers) and tune only one axis rotation. - There are only four degrees of freedom to adjust, and the entire process is documented in the "Adjustment Process" folder. - You can fine-tune everything in under 30 minutes using a dial gauge. The four necessary adjustments are detailed in the Adjustment Process" folder. - Ease of Manufacturing: Building the machine does not require any specific tools or complicated parts: just profile cutting, plate cutting, and drilling. No Milling, no lathing. I made mine by ordering pre-cut plates and drilling the holes myself. Rigidity: - The structure uses oversized components: 20mm plates and heavy-duty 40-series aluminum profiles. A 20kg weight on the head causes it to deflect by just a few hundredths of a millimeter. - The structure is assembled with 8mm screws, allowing for high torque tightening. - Because the structure is rigid, the machine runs quietly. Compactness: - The axes have been optimized to maximize travel compared to the standard assembly using 1204 ball screws. The ball screws are SFU1204 *DM* and do not use standard bearing supports.
