Horizontal Beehive Capacity: 30 brood frames (standard Langstroth). This horizontal beehive is designed for ease of use, improved insulation, and better hive management throughout the seasons. Key Features: - Hinged, insulated roof; The roof is mounted on hinges, allowing it to open and close easily without needing to lift it off or bend down to place it on the ground. - Extended corrugated roof sheeting; The roof overhangs the hive to protect it from rain and harsh weather. It is slanted toward the west, shielding the hive from the hottest part of the day during sunset while allowing the side of the hive to warm up in the cooler mornings. - Protruding corners for added insulation; All corners extend outward, making it easy to wrap additional insulation (such as bubble wrap) around the hive for winter conditions. - End-mounted entrance; The hive entrance is positioned at the end, reducing bee traffic when working the hive from the side and improving beekeeper safety and comfort. - Enhanced thermal insulation; Builders’ foam can be sprayed inside the roof for added insulation. The hive can also be turned upside down to spray foam on the underside, reducing heat loss and cold radiation from the ground. - Adjustable internal volume; A movable divider can be added at any point along the hive to increase or decrease internal space as the colony grows or contracts. - Standard frame compatibility; Uses 30 standard Langstroth (South Africa) brood frames, making it compatible with commonly available equipment. - DIY-friendly construction; Designed to be built from 20mm or 19mm pine shelving wood, making it accessible and easy to construct.
