NASA Bucket Design Challenge V4 · 模型 142015
A very simple scooping drum to scoop up moon regolith, that's also very easies to manufactory / make. As the drum rotates it scoops up regolith. The regolith is screened by the rake in front of each scoop to insure large clumps and small rocks are not scooped up, which could clog the scoops. The forward motion of the mining cart will ensure the scoop will be completely full. Then as the drum rotates the regolith is transferred to the internal swirl which channels the regolith to the center during mining operations. Then when the drum is full ( approx 15.4 liters) and in place to discharge the regolith, the drum is reversed. The internal swirl will transfer the regolith back out the scoops into the processing inlet. The drum is designed to be 3D metal laser sintering printed (with 85% or higher infill 95% recommended) technology. The print should be with powered metal that does not need or require print supports. If print supports are needed then the supports should be water-soluble so they can be removed easily with tap water, or some mild acid like acetone. I suggest it be set on one of the end disks, so it is printed from one end disk to the other disk. Once the print is done and cleaned up, the only thing left is to tap the two driveshaft attachment holes with an M12 tap, and attaching the drive shaft(s). I don't know what that metal is, but it has to be one that is very resistant to the very abrasive nature of the moon regolith and lightweight. Since I do not know what this metal is I can not calculate the weight of the drum. I do not think carbon fiber is durable enough to resist the abrasive of the regolith, meaning a carbon fiber drum will not last very long unless it coated with some coat to protect protected coating, possibly electroplating it with titanium. The ends of the drum are 10mm thick so the drum can be balanced by removing material. I recommend balancing the drum at least 40 RPMs. This will ensure the drum will run smoothly at the 20 RPM (as call out in the specifications). This balancing will reduce the wear and tear on the bearings, meaning the bearings will last longer. Also this 10mm thick acts like a flywheel (along with the internal supports). The kinetic energy stored in this flywheel will help to break up any clumps it runs into. I would like to make a recommendation. I suggest a flywheel between the drive motor and the gear box. This recommendation helps in two ways. The first way is when the scoop runs into a hard clump...
