S.P.E.A.R -- Stratospheric Projectile Ejection And Release mechanism · 模型 57216
My concept for the NASA SPEED test architecture. The S.P.E.A.R. (Stratospheric Projectile Ejection And Release) system represents a comprehensive engineering solution for NASA's SPEED challenge, addressing the critical need for reliable capsule ejection mechanisms in stratospheric testing environments. Drawing inspiration from proven aerospace technologies including NASA's own Genesis capsule heritage and established ESMATS research, this design prioritizes mechanical reliability over electronic complexity. The system features a novel Two-Step Ratchet Release Mechanism (2SRRM) that combines spring-loaded propulsion with precision linear guidance, ensuring clean capsule separation at supersonic conditions. Key engineering principles include extensive use of commercial off-the-shelf components, strategic 3D printing for custom parts, and a modular interface accommodating various test capsule geometries. The hot wire release system, based on nichrome burn wire technology, provides fail-safe operation while maintaining the low-cost manufacturing philosophy essential for high-volume testing campaigns. I included a PDF with a lot of technical details that describes my work. Thanks Charlie NOËL
