This design aims to solve the problem of fuel leakage during deep space missions when transferring cryogenic (extremely cold) fuels like liquid hydrogen or oxygen. The challenge is to create a seal that can prevent leaks while enduring the harsh conditions of space, such as extreme temperatures, pressure changes, and repeated use. This seemingly simple design is engineered to meet all the criteria laid out in the Challenges in as simple and practical a way as possible. This is done to increase reliability and robustness which are critical for more affordable space missions. Also, to limit the high complexities of rocket design, it is rocket science after all.
