NASA Regolith Drum E3 · 模型 164437
Here’s my third entry for the “NASA Regolith Advanced Surface Systems Operations Robot (RASSOR) Bucket Drum Design Challenge” found here: https://grabcad.com/challenges/nasa-regolith-advanced-surface-systems-operations-robot-rassor-bucket-drum-design-challenge Designed and 3D Modeled in SolidWorks 2020 Grain Simulation GIFs in Houdini Renders, Fan Video and GIF Animations using the Unreal Engine YouTube: https://youtu.be/b4xM6IBQ7k0 SOLIDWORKS - This CAD design is a combination of Titanium used for creating a cage structure and Carbon Fiber used for paneling the container surfaces. The cage also acts as a conveyor with lateral bars to catch and transfer regolith during the RASSOR operation. Flexible carbon fiber pieces slip, slide, and bend into position, and the bite bolts to the intake of each drum cartridge. The cartridges are independent of each other and bolt together at the hub to make up four cartridges. HOUDINI - Better Houdini simulations can be achieved, they just take an incredibly long time to do and demand constant processing power. For displaying this third entry, I kept it basic with an orthographic side view, showed grain velocity, and adjusted rotation speed to eliminate gravity spatter. Additionally, I only sampled regolith intake for three full rotations of the drum but with better accuracy consistent with the Moon’s gravity force. Essentially, enough to show the operational functionality, but not impact displaying the results within a Gif on GrabCAD. UNREAL ENGINE - Used UE4 for the making a few beauty renders, but then it escalated into creating GIF animations and even a short feature video. In making the video, the RASSOR Regolith Drum (which is my entry for the design challenge), and the RASSOR vehicle (an aesthetic placeholder I created) were 3D modeled, then imported into the UE4. To create the environment, I used a few props from the Sci-Fi kitbashing plugin for UE4, the diffuse texture from the CGI kit of the Moon’s surface (provided by NASA online), and then sculpted the Moonscape to make it look decent. All the animations were done in UE4 Blueprint and Sequencer. Maximum total width of scoops engaged at any given time: 89 mm per drum Maximum bucket drum mass: ~5 kg Maximum bucket drum diameter: 450 mm Maximum bucket drum length: 360 mm A minimum volume of regolith captured: ~60% Included in the download: Animated GIFs, Hero renderings, Video Animation, SolidWorks, STEP, and STL 3D files.
